Introduction to Sustainable Inland Transport

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Explain the importance of regulating inland transport and its role within the broader international transport system
• Describe the three pillars regulating the international transport system and outline their evolution over time
• Identify the key United Nations legal instruments (Inland Transport Conventions) that govern international inland transport
• Explain how these UN legal instruments contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with specific reference to road safety, climate, and environmental performance
• Recognise the horizontal inland transport themes that are of critical importance to the sustainable development agenda, and their relevance to transport facilitation
